Types of Dental Implants
Dental implants are great, modern dental replacement solutions that look and feel natural. If you choose the solution, you must know that there are three common types of implants that you can choose from – here they are:
- Endosteal implants – this is the most common and simplest type of implants, but it is recommended only for patients whose jawbone is strong enough to receive the titanium post;
- Subperiosteal implants – these implants are not screwed deep into the jawbone, therefore they are suitable for people whose jawbones are not suitable for the implant. These implants are also mounted underneath the gum, but they rest above the bone, without directly fusing into it. The post is mounted on a metal frame that is placed underneath the gum and it will be the gum that will heal around the frame to hold it in place;
- Zygomatic implants – these are the rarest of all implants and also the ones that are the most complicated to apply. The solution is recommended to those who don’t have sufficiently dense jawbones and need the implants to be installed into the cheekbone instead.
Having insufficient bone density does not mean that endosteal implants are ruled out completely – modern dental implants Colorado Springs oral surgery can solve the problem through bone augmentation, that is, through using bone additives to strengthen the bone.
