The following information is for patients undergoing a single tooth or multiple teeth extractions:
Some bleeding or redness in the saliva is normal after surgery. Any excessive bleeding can be controlled by biting on a gauze pad placed directly on the bleeding wound for 30 minutes. If bleeding continues please call us (303) 660-5651.
Swelling and bruising is a normal occurrence after surgery. This is best managed by:
- Using ice packs on the area for the first 24 hours in 10-minute intervals
- Keeping your head elevated for the first 48 hours
- Limiting physical activity for the first 72 hours
Maintain a liquid/soft diet for the first 24 hours. You can advance your diet as tolerated after that. Please avoid any percussion chewing directly above the extraction area. Avoid carbonated drinks, use of straws or spitting during the first 72 hours.
If you have been given any medications to assist with pain, swelling, or the possibility of infection please be sure to take them as directed by Dr. Bandrowsky.
Beginning the following day you may resume brushing your teeth and rinsing gently. Any over the counter mouth rinse is OK to use as long as it is alcohol-free.
Keep physical activities to a minimum immediately following surgery.
Refrain from smoking according to Dr. Bandrowsky's instructions.
